Manufacturer: Abbott Healthcare
Pharmaceutical name: Terazosin
Pack: 10 pills (2 mg)
Hytrin (Terazosin) belongs to a category of medications known as alpha-adrenergic blockers. It helps to relax veins and arteries, facilitating easier blood flow. Additionally, it relaxes the muscles in the prostate and bladder neck, which aids in urination. Hytrin is prescribed for managing hypertension (high blood pressure) and improving urination in men with benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate).
You should avoid taking Hytrin if you are allergic to Terazosin. This medication may lead to dizziness or fainting, particularly when you begin using it or restart it after a break. If it makes you feel light-headed, you might consider taking it only at bedtime. Exercise caution when driving or engaging in activities that require alertness. Avoid standing for prolonged periods and prevent overheating during exercise and in hot conditions. Also, be cautious about standing up too quickly from sitting or lying down, as this may cause dizziness.
If you discontinue Hytrin for any reason, consult your doctor before resuming it. A dose adjustment may be necessary.
Hytrin can influence your pupils during cataract surgery. Inform your eye surgeon in advance that you are taking Hytrin, and do not stop using it before the surgery unless advised by your surgeon.
Inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking, particularly other blood pressure treatments, including diuretics (water pills).
Side Effects: You may experience fatigue, nausea, drowsiness, blurred vision, headaches, or nasal congestion. Light-headedness or dizziness when standing may also occur, especially after your initial dose or during the first week of treatment. To reduce the risk of dizziness and fainting, stand up slowly from a seated or lying position. If you feel dizzy, sit or lie down. If these effects persist or worsen, contact your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
Keep in mind that your doctor prescribed this medication because they believe the benefits outweigh the potential risks of side effects. Many individuals using Hytrin do not experience severe side effects.
Notify your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following serious but rare side effects: fainting, rapid or irregular heartbeat, tingling or burning sensations in the hands or feet, issues with sexual function, swelling in the ankles, hands, or feet, or unexpected weight gain.
Contact your doctor immediately if any of these unusual yet serious side effects occur: easy bruising or bleeding, or changes in mood or mental status.
